It’s that time of year.
The time where you and your kids are always sick.
And there is nothing worse when your little baby gets a cold.
All you want is to be able to give them some NyQuil so they can sleep and breathe, but alas, that’s not an option.
So what can you do?
1. Use steam
Taking your child into the bathroom and running a hot shower works wonders. That humidity helps to clear their noses out and moisten their airways. My favorite trick was to just stick my baby in a bouncer while I showered. So it turned out to be a win/win!
2. Vicks BabyRub
I LOVE Vicks BabyRub. It’s not recommended for infants under 3 months, but for those who are older, it really is fantastic. And it lasts all night long!
3. Essential oils
There are lots of different essential oils that could help with breathing. Just be aware of what is recommended for a baby. Oftentimes, you have to really dilute them if you want to use them topically, but my favorite way to use them is through a diffuser.
I like using doTERRA’s Breathe blend or Eucalyptus in this diffuser. They really work great!
4. Cool mist humidifier
While steam is nice, a warm mist humidifier can have easy mold build up, so I always recommend using a cool mist humidifier. Not only that, but warm mist humidifiers can get really hot! So not very safe around young ones.
5. Saline spray and Nose Frida
Another one of my favorite cold remedies is saline spray plus a Nose Frida. Guys, this stuff is amazing. A Nose Frida is wayyy better than a bulb syringe since a bulb syringe can’t be cleaned easily and can breed bacteria. Ew.
Once you get the past the weirdness of sucking out boogers (that would NEVER get to your mouth either. Promise!) then you’ll be amazed by this. I always use a little saline spray to loosen things up, and then I use the Nose Frida. It helps to clear things up immediately!
And if you get sick too, be sure to check out this post! Since we all know that there is nothing worse than having to be a mom while you’re sick as well.
So even though cold medicine just isn’t an option at this age, all of these cold remedies will really help your baby to get through their miserable cold! And remember, if you have any concerns about your baby’s health, be sure to contact your pediatrician.
